In “Yeon Ae (Dr.),” Kim So-hyun went all-in on Choo Young-woo.

Episode 2 of ENA’s Monday-Tuesday drama “Yeon Ae (Dr.)” (directed by Ahn Pan-seok, written by Min Hyo-jung, planned by KT Studio Gini, produced by Studio Goti), which aired on the 6th, depicted Im Yu-jin (played by Kim So-hyun) boldly charging ahead in the face of new dreams and love. Im Yu-jin had passed the entrance exam for a master’s program in mechanical engineering with the help of Park Min-jae (played by Choo Young-woo), allowing her to join him as a colleague in a robotics laboratory. Amidst this, Im Yu-jin suddenly stepped close to Park Min-jae and kissed him, igniting a fierce flame in the unfinished youth romance. As strong responses continued, viewership also rose. The second episode recorded a nationwide viewership rating of 2.4% and a peak per-minute rating of 2.6% nationwide, sustaining its favorable reception (based on Nielsen Korea paid household data).

On this day, Im Yu-jin visited Park Min-jae once again. She requested his help regarding the research proposal required for her admission to the master’s program in mechanical engineering. Park Min-jae was puzzled, unable to understand why Im Yu-jin, who had always secured top honors in the fashion design department, suddenly wanted to change her major to a completely different field. When Im Yu-jin said that she had found out she did not have a talent for it and that it did not suit her, Park Min-jae asked what she would do if it turned out she also lacked talent for mechanical engineering. Faced with Park Min-jae’s question, which seemed to view her carefully made choice lightly, Im Yu-jin ultimately gave a sharp reply.

The relationship between the two kept drifting apart. Im Yu-jin harbored a strange expectation when Park Min-jae asked if she had a boyfriend. She thought the date he mentioned was with him and went with fluttering anticipation, only to find that it was actually a gathering to introduce her to laboratory colleagues. Im Yu-jin could not hide her disappointment, which matched the extent of her unconscious expectations. Following this, another commotion broke out. Im Yu-jin, who had gone on a tour of the lab with Park Min-jae’s laboratory colleagues, swung a baseball bat with full force at a robot after being goaded by those around her to try it out. Eventually, the robot was destroyed, and the laboratory plunged into chaos in an instant. Confronted with the scene of utter disarray, Park Min-jae let out a cry of frustration, while Im Yu-jin, blaming herself, ultimately burst into tears. The distance between the two remained difficult to close.

Im Yu-jin’s pursuit of admission to the master’s program in mechanical engineering continued. An Jae-hong (Prof.) (played by Lee Chang-hoon), who had checked Im Yu-jin’s email as a graduate of the fashion design department, began to feel curious. He went to see Kang Mi-ran (Prof.) (played by Ryu Kyung-in) from the fashion design department with Park Min-jae and asked about Im Yu-jin. Professor Kang, who still held negative feelings toward Im Yu-jin, shared his unfavorable views on her. However, the more Park Min-jae listened, the more he felt something was off, so he went to see Jeong Soobin (played by Park Ha-rang), Im Yu-jin’s friend who had been a victim of the incident. There, he learned the behind-the-scenes story of the past incident and the real reason why Im Yu-jin had no choice but to give up on majoring in fashion design. Meanwhile, Im Yu-jin submitted her application for the master’s program in mechanical engineering and took the exam alongside another applicant, Kim Se-jin (played by Im Jin-hyo), from a prestigious university’s electronic engineering department. As Professor Ahn struggled with Im Yu-jin’s test paper, Park Min-jae cautiously highlighted Im Yu-jin’s potential. As a result, Im Yu-jin was ultimately accepted and stood on the verge of a new beginning as a colleague in the robotics laboratory.

At the subsequent welcome party for Im Yu-jin, laboratory colleagues, along with Park Min-jae and Cha Seo-hyun (played by Han Do-i), gathered together to raise their glasses in a cheerful atmosphere. Im Yu-jin also expressed her determination to work hard and emptied her glass. After the drinking session ended, Park Min-jae got into a taxi with Im Yu-jin to take her home, who was drunk. From her highly excited state of dancing and singing to her suddenly falling asleep, smiles began to appear on his face at Im Yu-jin’s quirky and lovable demeanor.

On the way home, Im Yu-jin, who had been staggering, suddenly disappeared from sight, and Park Min-jae searched for her through dark alleyways. The moment he finally found her, Im Yu-jin grabbed the hem of Park Min-jae’s clothes and whispered, “Tell me now if you don’t want to,” as she leaned in as if to kiss him. While Im Yu-jin slowly counted down, Park Min-jae looked at her with a bewildered gaze. As their eyes met again, Im Yu-jin kissed Park Min-jae without hesitation, raising heart rates and fueling anticipation for unpredictable changes in the relationship that would sweep over them.
