Comedian Hwang Ki-soon recalled the period when he lived in hiding overseas due to past gambling controversies.

On the 8th, comedian Kim Jung-ryul and Hwang Ki-soon appeared as guests on MBN's 'Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night'.

That day, Hwang Ki-soon said about how he became involved in gambling: "Many people say, 'Would you really go that far to ruin someone financially?' but many have followed in my footsteps. At some point, all the money I earned through work ended up there, so I started thinking about 'breaking even.' From then on, things deteriorated rapidly."

Regarding his two years of illegal stay in the Philippines, he revealed: "I lived in hiding out of fear. After everything came to light, hunger was the most painful experience. I went to fast-food restaurants and only watched others eat. Eventually, I lived by relying on people's homes. The thing I feared most was Korean expatriates."

He continued: "I didn't go outside for nearly a year. I would go out while playing soccer, growing a beard and using an alias so people wouldn't recognize me. One international student had a relative who was a CP (chief producer) on a current affairs program; when that person saw me and reported it, the production team tracked me down."

He added: "After that, I did three days of interviews, and after the broadcast aired, the reporting turned out in a positive direction. Although I had done wrong and was disliked, I came across as pitiful. I had no hope, nothing to my name, and no one to talk to. Above all, what terrified me most was loneliness. I even had dark thoughts."

Hwang Ki-soon also stated: "Contrary to the reports, I did not owe debts as large as 1 billion won or 2 billion won. Various overlapping financial issues were settled, and out of fear, I couldn't return."
