Actress Kim Hyeon-ju revealed that she intentionally kept her distance from Bae Hyun-sung, who plays her son, even on the actual filming set in order to portray an unfamiliar mother-and-son relationship in 'The Fall.'

A press screening for the film 'The Fall' (directed by Yeon Sang-ho) was held on the 12th at CGV Yongsan Ipark Mall in Seoul. Director Yeon Sang-ho and actors Kim Hyeon-ju and Bae Hyun-sung attended the event, where they shared various insights.

'The Fall' is a psychological thriller that begins when Ryu So-young (played by Kim Hyeon-ju), a mother who lost her son in a camping school bus disappearance incident nine years ago, is reunited with her son, Ryu Sun-woo (played by Bae Hyun-sung), who she had believed to be dead, as he miraculously returns.

Kim Hyeon-ju stated that she also maintained an intentional distance from Bae Hyun-sung in real life, despite working closely with him as her on-screen son. She emphasized with a smile, "I have never felt like I was playing a mother," and added, "We did not have the physical time to get close to each other. Because we completed filming in just 14 shooting days over the course of one month, we needed time to focus on ourselves."

She continued, "The two characters were not in a close relationship within the story either, so we actually grew closer after filming was finished," adding, "Because Mr. Hyun-sung took on a challenging role, I think I intentionally kept a slight distance during filming."

Director Yeon Sang-ho also explained that the two actors began filming in an environment where they could focus on their respective characters, rather than building intimacy before shooting started.

He recalled, "Usually, when making a film, we meet with the actors many times in advance, but for this film, I think we met with the actors individually," and added, "We did not even hold the traditional pre-filming ritual that we always perform. It seems we just started filming one day."
