Super Junior's Kim Hee-chul has finally apologized regarding the controversy over an upside-down national flag.

On the 9th, Kim Hee-chul stated, "You may find it surprising to see an apology statement just one day later, but this is clearly my fault. I failed to properly recognize the figure holding the flag and reacted with anger after seeing only the Taegeuk design at a glance. This was a clear mistake caused by my lack of spatial awareness and rashness. I am sorry."

Previously, an Incheon City banner displayed ahead of Liberation Day featured an image of a person holding the national flag. As the flag was depicted in an unfamiliar manner compared to its usual appearance, online criticism arose questioning whether the arrangement of the Taegeuk's eight trigrams was incorrect.

In response, Kim Hee-chul publicly expressed anger by commenting "X is crazy" on the image. He added, "Many people are worried about political implications regarding the national flag, but regardless of left or right, it is our country's national flag."

He continued, "While I hope my fans avoid being dragged into any issues, I believe that the controversy over an upside-down flag, and even more so, remarks not related to left or right politics, are neither grounds for praise nor criticism. It is only natural for anyone who is a citizen of South Korea."

Kim Hee-chul had previously remarked, "If I get criticized despite this, then perhaps it's the price I must pay for my image that has been under fire for so long."
