On January 31, KBS officially announced the reasons it has decided not to air the TV series City Conquest. A spokesperson for the newwork KBS said, “It is regrettable that the production company for the series has called our decision arbitrary and heavy-handed, even implying that we are feeling constrainid by the incoming goverment administration, which is completely untrue. We held four meetings to review the series, and each time we put off accepting it, we asked the production crew to improve the script. However, the most recent proposal that they handed in for our review is insufficiently competitive and contains too much violence for a public broadcaster to air. Those are the reasons we decided not to air the series. We clearly stated in writing that if the script was not competitive enough, we would no be able to air it. Even though we followed our official protocol in making this decision, the production company is insisting that we are being cowed by the incoming administration. They also used expressions that we consider defamation of character. We are determined to deal sternly with the claims that the production company has made.”
