One of the three big companies SM Entertainment (below SM) has launched a new girl group after 5 years, and another rival label YG Entertainment (below YG) is challenging SM with its upcoming alleged girl group. According to YG, a new girl group is preparing their debut for the second half of the year.

On July 28th, according to SM Entertainment, a new girl group ‘Red Velvet’ consisting of 4 members Irene, Seulgi, Wendy and Joy will make their official debut on august. On august 4th, ‘Red Velvet’ will unleash debut song and digital single [Happiness] and enter the entertainment industry for the first time.

The SM new girl group is already drawing fans’ attention as ‘Red Velvet’ will show a different color from popular top girl groups ‘S.E.S’, ‘Girl’s Generation’ and ‘f(x)’.

Each member of the group has an interesting story.

‘Irene’ born in 1991, ‘Seulgi’ born in 1994 and ‘Wendy’ who have been known as SMROOKIES are the first members to join the entertainment industry and are known for their pretty looks and talents. The team’s youngest member ‘Joy’ born in 1996 is also getting much praise for her versatile talents.

Especially among the members, ‘Seulgi’ who has the same age as ‘f(x)’ ‘Sulli’ and ‘Krystal’ has been trained for more than 6 years and has caught the heart of fans with her cute look before her debut. Last year in a MBC TV show [Gold Fish Radio Star] starring ‘Sulli’ and ‘Krystal’ her name was revealed for the first time drawing people’s attention.

SM has built anticipation for the new girl group saying “The groups name Red Velvet brings together red, a powerful and seductive color, and velvet, which evokes feminine and soft images, Red Velvet seeks to impress the world with its unique colors as well as new music and polished performances on stage.”

With the debut of SM new girl group after 5 years, fans are also looking forward to YG’s alleged group. In fact, YG is planning to launch a new girl group too after 5 years since 2NE1′s debut.
