“Lee Min-Ho Effect” proves to be immense. Top Korean actor’s first movie [Gangnam Blues] was sold to China at a record high price.

According to various industrial sources, [Gangnam Blues] was sold to a Chinese movie agency at an unprecedented price of KRW 1 billion. This sets the record for a Korean movie sold to any Chinese movie distributor in history.

[Gangnam Blues] is the work by “Yoo Ha”, who also directed [Once Upon a Time in High School] and [A Dirty Carnival]. The movie tells a noir film based on a story of two friends working for different gangs during the time of the Gangnam real estate development period. It attracted a lot of attention as two top actors “Lee Min-Ho” and “Kim Rae-Won” starred in the movie.

The reason for the Chinese distributor acquiring the movie at such a high price is due to huge popularity of “Lee Min-Ho” in China. “Lee Min-Ho” is the brand model of 13 Chinese brands and earned more than KRW 15.5 billion solely from commercials.
