'You Quiz' Chef Sam Kim recalled his time studying abroad in the past.

On the 26th episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block', when told, "When you were a high school student, your family was so well-off that they owned five houses?", Sam Kim replied, "My father ran a steel business. Instead of paying tuition fees, he received one villa unit as payment. As the business thrived, he expanded into construction materials."

He continued, "However, during the IMF crisis, red stickers began appearing on our house. We were told to vacate within two weeks. I now have a son and sometimes feel the need to rely on him. My father may have felt the same way toward me."

As the family's financial situation worsened, Sam Kim chose to enlist in the military. He said bitterly, "After my discharge, I prepared to study abroad in the United States. I wanted to learn about diverse people and various cuisines on a vast land. But our family's circumstances continued to deteriorate."

Notably, Sam Kim revealed, "I told my family I was going to become an accountant when I left for the U.S. Careers like lawyers and accountants earn well, so I couldn't tell my mother that I wanted to be a chef. They secured a loan of 3 million won from a secondary financial institution. They told me to return once the money ran out. My mother gave me what felt like an enormous sum."
