Actor Bae Hyun-seong shared his thoughts on making his screen debut in director Yeon Sang-ho's new film, "The Fall of Paradise."

On the 20th, at a cafe in Samcheong-ro, Seoul Jongno-gu, we met with actor Bae Hyun-seong from the film "The Fall of Paradise" (directed by Yeon Sang-ho) and discussed various aspects of the work.

"The Fall of Paradise" is a psychological thriller that begins when Ryu Sun-woo (played by Bae Hyun-seong), whom his mother Ryu So-young (played by Kim Hyeon-joo) believed to be dead after losing him in a camping school bus disappearance incident nine years ago, miraculously returns alive.

In the film, Bae Hyun-seong took on the role of the unfamiliar son, Ryu Sun-woo, who returned after nine years, challenging himself with his first leading screen role. This collaboration followed a previous connection where he worked with director Yeon Sang-ho in Season 2 of the Netflix series "Hell."

On this day, Bae Hyun-seong expressed his feelings, saying, "I was happy to make my screen debut as the lead in a work by Director Yeon Sang-ho. I am having an unbelievable and happy time, having been able to attend Toronto and the Busan International Film Festival."

He continued, "Only after attending the film festivals did I realize how vast the world is. Various fans came to welcome me, and they enjoyed watching the movie. I was grateful that they filled the screening halls," sharing his overflowing emotions about experiencing domestic and international film festivals with his first film.

He also spoke about his connection with director Yeon Sang-ho. Bae Hyun-seong recalled, "I briefly met the director in 'Hell' Season 2. My screen time was short, and I could only shoot for one day, which left me feeling regretful. Later, I heard news that the script had been sent to the director."

He revealed, "I read the script and found it very interesting. As soon as I finished reading it, I felt a strong desire to do it, and because I found the character appealing, I immediately agreed to participate."

He added, "According to the director, he was wondering, 'Who is a young actor suitable for the role of the son?' and then remembered me, who had appeared in 'Hell.' I heard that he thought, 'Let's give Hyun-seong a chance with the script,'" sharing the behind-the-scenes story of his casting.

Bae Hyun-seong also revealed his wish to join what is known as "Yeon Sang-ho's crew." He stated, "Of course, it would be great if I could belong to Yeon Sang-ho's crew. We met briefly in 'Hell' and worked together again in 'The Fall of Paradise,' but the shooting period was not long this time either. I hope we have another opportunity to work together next time."

He continued, laughing, "It seems the director makes every character appealing, no matter what role it is. Since I played a villain this time, it would be fun to meet again as a hero next time."

He then added, "I am grateful just for being included in the lineup of young male actors that the director has in mind. It seems I will have to continue to impress the director with me as an actor," conveying his affection for director Yeon Sang-ho and his anticipation of a reunion.

Meanwhile, "The Fall of Paradise" is scheduled for release on the 21st.
