"Just one step short"... K-pop Demon Hunters' 'Golden' stands on the verge of K-pop's first No. 1

K-pop Demon Hunters' hit song 'Golden' climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary (AC) chart, narrowly missing K-pop's first No. 1 by just one step. This remarkable achievement came 34 weeks after the song's release.

According to Forbes, 'Golden' moved up one spot from No. 3 to No. 2 on this week's AC chart. The AC chart is known as the slowest-changing among Billboard charts, yet 'Golden's' steady climb over 34 weeks is considered unprecedented.

The song currently blocking the No. 1 spot is 'Ordinary' by singer-songwriter Alex Warren, which has held the top position for 30 consecutive weeks. This record ranks as the fifth-longest No. 1 run in AC chart history, placing it alongside Miley Cyrus' 'Flowers' (57 weeks) and Teddy Swims' 'Lose Control' (49 weeks).

In addition to the AC chart, 'Golden' has maintained a stable No. 4 position on the Adult Pop Airplay chart for 42 weeks since its entry. Forbes noted, "Golden is the only K-pop song with Korean lyrics to reach the top 10 on this chart." The outlet added, "If 'Ordinary' relinquishes the No. 1 spot, Golden could become the first K-pop song to top the AC chart." Before K-pop Demon Hunters, Lisa's 'Moonlit Floor' held the highest K-pop ranking at No. 16.

Golden was released as a single for the Netflix animated film 'K-pop Demon Hunters' on July 4, 2025. The song has won both Grammy and Academy Awards and simultaneously charted on the Billboard Global 200 and Global (excluding the U.S.) charts. Fans expressed disbelief that the song is still being played on radio 34 weeks after its release, raising expectations for its first No. 1 achievement.

At last week's American Music Awards (AMA), K-pop Demon Hunters vocalists EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Ray Ami garnered attention for performing 'Golden' and receiving the Song of the Lee Eo-reul (수상). As the song approaches its first anniversary, fans are closely watching whether 'Golden' will make history as the first K-pop song to top the AC chart, showing no signs of dropping from the charts.
