South Korea national team forward Oh Hyeon-gyu (25, Beşiktaş) delivered a powerful performance in Germany.

On the 16th (Korean time), Beşiktaş defeated Hoffenheim 3-2 in their second match of the 2026~2027 UEFA Europa League league phase, held in Sinsheim, Germany.

With this victory, Beşiktaş secured a two-game winning streak in the Europa League, accumulating 6 points.

Oh Hyeon-gyu was undoubtedly the star of the win. Starting as the leading forward in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Oh played for 85 minutes and recorded 2 goals and 1 assist. He delivered a one-man show by being involved in all three of Beşiktaş's goals.

He was aggressive throughout the match. Oh touched the ball a total of 10 times inside the opponent's penalty box and attempted 7 shots, the most among both teams.

Neither team scored in the first half. The game swung dramatically in the second half.

Beşiktaş broke the deadlock first. Oh Hyeon-gyu played a decisive role. In the 15th minute of the second half, from a Beşiktaş corner kick, the ball moved through Leandro Trossard and Wilfried Ndidi to reach Oh Hyeon-gyu. Oh deflected it to Amir Murillo, who finished in front of the goal to score the opening goal. It was Oh's first assist of the season in the Europa League.

Hoffenheim equalized 1-1 with a goal by Fisnik Asllani in the 23rd minute of the second half.

Then, Oh Hyeon-gyu stepped up as the direct scorer. In the 27th minute of the second half, receiving a pass from Junior Olaitan, Oh completely dismantled the space behind the opposing defense. He remained calm even in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper and shook the net with a precise shot. Beşiktaş took the lead again, 2-1.

Oh Hyeon-gyu's footwork shone once more just seven minutes later. In the 34th minute of the second half, Oh received a pass connected from the right side by Ilhan Palut and finished accurately from the opposite side.

Thanks to Oh Hyeon-gyu completing his multi-goal performance, Beşiktaş extended their lead to 3-1.

Hoffenheim managed to pull one goal back with a header by Goki Machida in the 43rd minute of the second half, but there was no further pursuit. Ultimately, Beşiktaş held on for a 3-2 victory.

The Turkish scene also took note of Oh Hyeon-gyu's outstanding performance. The Turkish media outlet "Türkiye Gazetesi" stated, "Oh Hyeon-gyu put on a show," highly evaluating his play.

The outlet praised him, saying, "Beşiktaş's Korean forward Oh Hyeon-gyu recorded 2 goals and 1 assist in the match, playing a major role in the victory."

He also set a special record. According to reports, Oh became the first Beşiktaş player in approximately 8 years to score two goals in a single Europa League away match, following Jeremain Lens who scored a multi-goal performance against Sarpsborg in November 2018.

Even more significant was that he exploded on the scene just three matches after securing a starting opportunity.

Oh Hyeon-gyu, who had started from the bench in his last three matches, earned a starting spot when Doosan Vlahović was left off the roster due to stomach issues. And in just one match, he proved his worth. He also rekindled the competition for a regular starter position.

Football statistics media FootMob also awarded Oh Hyeon-gyu the highest rating of 9.3 among both teams.

Oh touched the ball 44 times in 85 minutes, including 10 touches inside the opponent's penalty box. He attempted a match-high 7 shots. He converted both of his two on-target shots into goals and successfully completed both of his two dribbles.

He was strong in physical duels as well. He won an impressive 9 out of 10 ground duels and drew 7 fouls from the opposition.

In defense, he contributed with 1 interception, 2 clearances, and 2 ball recoveries.
