Ahn Jung-hwan, a former South Korean national soccer team player, shared his thoughts on not participating in the 2026 North American World Cup broadcast, showcasing his characteristic cheerful wit.

On the 18th, a video titled "Once Every Four Years, Who Is the Real Protagonist? Ahn Jung-hwan and Jang Ji-hyun Pick the Most Anticipated Team and Player to Watch" was released on the YouTube channel 'Ahn Jung-hwan 19'.

That day, Ahn Jung-hwan told commentator Jang Ji-hyun, "Since you cover overseas soccer matches more often than I do, you must know the strengths and weaknesses of the players well," to which Jang Ji-hyun replied, "Unfortunately, this time MBC and SBS will not be broadcasting."

He continued, "In the past, I would have prepared extensively during this period and shared many insights, but it is true that I have been lacking. Instead, I now have the opportunity to watch soccer without worrying about viewership ratings, enjoying a beer without any burden."

Ahn Jung-hwan agreed, saying, "If I had been preparing for the broadcast, I must have lost a lot of hair. I would have had to sit at my desk all day, study, and read newspaper articles to find out what changes or developments are happening in the tournament. I would have had to study so hard it would give me a headache, but I plan to watch comfortably while drinking beer like commentator Jang Ji-hyun."

He then added, "Actually, it was time for me to take a break. After all, if I do broadcast, the viewership will be number one anyway," showing confidence, but immediately apologized, saying, "I am sorry for being arrogant."
