YouTuber Park Wi is caught up in controversy over his ‘adopted family,’ and his YouTube subscriber count has decreased again.

As of the 10th, Park Wi’s YouTube channel ‘Weracle’ had approximately 939,000 subscribers, dropping to the 930,000 range. On the 15th of last month, Park Wi’s subscriber count was around 946,000, showing a decline of about 10,000 by this date.

Since Park Wi faced backlash over his report regarding a fall accident on KTX, subscribers have been leaving as uncomfortable points have been repeatedly identified in another one of his past videos.

Recently, online, a video titled “First Chuseok Spent at My In-Laws’ House,” released by Park Wi in September 2024, has been re-examined with reactions calling it “bizarre.”

In the video, Song Ji-eun, former member of the group SECRET, visited her in-laws’ house for the first time to celebrate a major holiday after marrying Park Wi. At this time, attention was drawn as Park Wi’s father, director Park Chan-hong, a former freelance drama PD at KBS, and Yoon So-hee, an actress who is Park Chan-hong’s adopted daughter, appeared together.

Yoon So-hee arrived at Park Chan-hong’s home early and greeted Park Wi and Song Ji-eun in comfortable attire. Park Wi drew attention by mentioning Yoon So-hee before his wife Song Ji-eun during the pre-meal prayer. It was also considered strange that the tableware set on the dining table consisted of two sets each for Park Wi and Yoon So-hee, and for Park Wi’s parents, while Song Ji-eun alone had to use different tableware. Park Wi’s parents were also seen praising Yoon So-hee by saying she is “smart,” rather than offering praise to Song Ji-eun.

At the time, Yoon So-hee referred to herself as Song Ji-eun’s “new sister-in-law,” and Song Ji-eun said, “Jin-hee-unni, So-hee-ssi, I really have a lot of sisters-in-law.” In response, Park Wi’s mother said, “But my sisters-in-law are so nice.”

Netizens who watched this reacted with comments such as, “What is an adopted daughter? It’s bizarre,” “Why did Yoon So-hee go to someone else’s house for a holiday?” and “Ordinary households don’t have adopted daughters, so it’s not ordinary.”

The phenomenon of Park Wi losing subscribers was also prominent last month. In a video uploaded to the ‘One Shot Hansol’ YouTube channel in November 2022 titled “Is it really possible with lower body paralysis? I’m embarrassed, but I asked,” Park Wi appeared to test and mock One Shot Hansol’s visual impairment, making viewers uncomfortable. As this incident came to light, the subscriber count for Park Wi’s YouTube channel ‘Weracle’ dropped from the 950,000 mark to the 940,000 mark.

The channel boasted over 1 million subscribers before the backlash against Park Wi’s report on the KTX fall accident, but subscribers have continued to decline since the controversy erupted.

On August 21 last year, Park Wi uploaded a video reporting that he suffered a fall accident when his wheelchair caught on the foot of a public service duty personnel while using KTX. However, after facing backlash for making targeted remarks, he apologized by stating, “I did not consider the position of the staff member who did their best to help me at the scene at the time the situation occurred and apologized politely,” and suspended his YouTube activities.

Meanwhile, Park Wi has been sharing his rehabilitation process through YouTube after being diagnosed with full-body paralysis following a building fall accident in 2014. He married Song Ji-eun, a singer and former member of the group SECRET, in 2024.
