Attention is focused on the timing of YouTuber Park Wi’s return.

Currently, Park Wi has not made any significant statement for about two months since declaring a suspension of activities on his YouTube channel “Willacle” due to the KTX controversy.

Recently, he continued his silence by additionally setting channel videos to private, while interest remains high in when he will return amid the prolonged suspension of activities.

It is known that YouTube may restrict monetization eligibility for channels with no activity for more than six months. Consequently, whether Park Wi will return before being affected in terms of monetization eligibility is a point of interest. However, given the ongoing various controversies, his return does not appear to be easy.

In August, Park Wi uploaded a video related to KTX on “Willacle” and became embroiled in controversy. At the time, Park Wi released CCTV footage showing him falling over with his wheelchair after tripping over the foot of a social service worker while getting off a train, posting it on his YouTube channel. He stated, “It was not done with intent, but I was angry simply because he placed his foot on the ramp.” The social service worker in question is reported to have apologized to Park Wi immediately after the incident.

However, criticism emerged after it became known that Park Wi filmed himself reenacting the accident scene at the location, and that he edited out the staff’s apology scenes while structuring the video primarily around his own perspective. Ultimately, Park Wi apologized, saying, “I failed to consider the position of the worker who had apologized politely.” He subsequently declared a suspension of YouTube activities and voluntarily stepped down from his role as a Seoul city ambassador.

The aftermath of the controversy was significant. As previously uploaded videos on “Willacle” were re-examined, criticism continued regarding Park Wi’s words, actions, and character.

Pointers arose that he made remarks appearing to trivialize disability in a video featuring visually impaired YouTuber One Shot Han Sol. Doubts also surfaced that actresses associated with his father, director Park Chan-hong, were referred to as adopted daughters, and claims were raised that his wife, Song Ji-eun, was being mistreated by her in-laws.

Recently, the “french fries video” also became a topic of discussion again. A short clip edited from a scene where Park Wi ordered a hamburger set at a drive-thru and said, “I should have asked for the french fries to be fried hot,” while repeatedly exclaiming “Ah, damn!”, spread across social media and YouTube.

To date, Park Wi has not made any significant statement since issuing an apology letter. However, he is quietly deleting videos.

During the undisclosed advertising controversy in 2020, some major YouTubers faced criticism for uploading videos before their monetization was halted, a practice known as the “six-month rule.” Attention is focused on whether Park Wi, who has been suspended from activities for two months, will choose to return before six months have passed.
