• On-site at the production briefing for Disney+’s "The Remarried Empress"

Actress Lee Se-young explained the reason she did her best to manage her appearance while filming the work.

The production briefing for Disney+’s "The Remarried Empress" was held on the morning of the 3rd at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by actors Shin Min-a, Joo Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk, and Lee Se-young, as well as Director Jo Su-won.

"The Remarried Empress" is a romance fantasy epic drama about Navie (played by Shin Min-a), the perfect empress of the Dongdae Empire, who is notified of a divorce by Emperor Soviesh (played by Joo Ji-hoon), who has fallen for the runaway slave Rasta (played by Lee Se-young). In lieu of accepting the divorce, she demands approval to remarry Prince Heinrey (played by Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom.

Lee Se-young, who plays the role of the runaway slave Rasta in the drama, explained, "I thought of Rasta as being like a child. A child instinctively cries when hungry. Similarly, I saw Rasta as a character who desires fiercely in order to survive and stay alive."

In the drama, Rasta acts as an "anger-inducing" character. When asked about a scene that left a deep impression while acting, Lee Se-young said, "There is a line that has been released where I ask Empress Navie, 'Can I call you sister?' While delivering that line, I felt (Rasta) really had no thoughts at all," which drew laughter.

Lee Se-young continued, "I thought, if I’m not this white and pretty, people will hate me. So I worked harder on managing my appearance than for any other work." She added, "I hope you’ll say that while you want to kill Rasta, you feel sorry for her and understand her. I really took great care of myself," expressing affection for the character she played.

Meanwhile, "The Remarried Empress" will be released on Disney+. The series was originally scheduled to have episodes 1 through 4 released on the 4th, but the release has been moved up by one day to the 3rd. Afterward, two episodes will be released every Wednesday, for a total of 10 episodes.
