BTS’s Jimin has garnered praise for his exemplary military service and heartwarming discharge remarks.
Having enlisted in December 2023 as an active-duty soldier in the 5th Infantry Division’s artillery brigade, Jimin completed his 18-month military service and was discharged on June 11th. After reporting for discharge at his unit and passing through the guard post, he headed to the Yeoncheon Comprehensive Sports Ground. There, he greeted reporters with a crisp salute and shared his discharge remarks. “Thank you so much to everyone who came from so far away. It’s been quite a long time since COVID and my time in the military, and I’m so grateful you didn’t forget about me and waited,” Jimin said. He added, “I’ll work hard to show you an even better side of myself,” raising anticipation for his future activities.
Reuters highlighted Jimin’s discharge remarks on its official YouTube channel, and the video was also uploaded with English subtitles on the American weekly news magazine *Newsweek*. Jimin’s final words particularly resonated online. He said, “If I may add one last thing, the military was a really difficult place for us. There are so many people who work hard there, so if you happen to pass by soldiers on the street, even a warm word would be a great honor.”
This heartfelt message sparked a wave of positive responses. Veterans and active-duty soldiers, as well as the general public, commented with messages like, “As someone who has completed military service, thank you so much,” “His words carry weight because he’s a person of influence, and it’s cool to see even as a man,” “I like him so much,” “I heard he served excellently and followed the rules, I wish him continued success,” and “I’m a man, and I’m a Jimin fan now.” These comments demonstrate the positive impact Jimin has had on others.
Jimin received the “Outstanding Trainee” division commander’s commendation and was selected as a “Special Warrior,” earning an early promotion. From enlistment to military life and discharge, he consistently demonstrated diligence, earning him the title of a “model military idol.”
