Girl group ILLIT is demonstrating clear growth both in Korea and Japan.
According to Oricon Japan on June 25th, ILLIT’s (Yuna, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, Iroha) mini album 3rd “Magnetic” ranked 2nd on the latest “Weekly Album Ranking” (dated June 30th / aggregation period June 16th-22nd). “Magnetic” proved its popularity by exceeding the first-week album sales of its previous mini album 2nd “I’LL LIKE YOU” on its first day of release in Japan.
ILLIT previously topped the Hanteo Chart weekly album chart (3rd week of June) with first-week album sales of over 400,000 copies in Korea. ILLIT’s trajectory, consistently showing upward momentum with each album release in both Korea and Japan, is attracting attention. The title track is also performing well on music charts. “Magnetic” entered Melon’s “Top 100” immediately after its release and is continuing its climb. In particular, their music show performances are generating buzz and gaining popularity on various charts. It topped Apple Music Korea’s “Today’s Top 100” for 6 consecutive days (June 18th-23rd). The title track’s point choreography from the “short-form powerhouse” ILLIT is expected to spark a challenge craze. The “cat stretch dance” that matches the unique lyrics such as “Doomchitnyaong” creates a strong addictive quality. ILLIT is receiving enthusiastic responses from global K-pop fans with challenge videos featuring a witty concept of borrowing members who resemble cats to perform the point choreography.
ILLIT’s upgraded skills are also a hot topic. Yuna appeared on the YouTube channel ‘Limousine Service’ on June 24th and performed live covers of songs including “Night Picnic” from the mini album 3rd, Nayeon’s “LOVE COUNTDOWN,” and Taeyeon’s “Curtain Call.” Lee Mujin praised Yuna’s vocals, saying, “Her fundamentals stand out. It’s a vocal with weight that makes you listen.”
In addition, ILLIT is gaining love for their friendly side offstage through web entertainment shows. They are appearing on popular YouTube channels such as ‘Idol Human Theater,’ ‘Minju’s Pink Cabinet,’ and ‘RISABAE,’ captivating fans with their witty remarks.
