BigHit Music’s rookie boy group CORTIS (Martin, James, Joohoon, Sunghyun, Geonho) is finally making their long-awaited debut.

On August 18 at 6 PM, the group will officially debut with their first single What You Want. Following BTS in 2013 and TXT in 2019, CORTIS is the third boy group launched by BigHit Music, marking the company’s first new boy group in six years. With BigHit known as the “powerhouse of boy groups,” K-pop fans have long speculated about the so-called “six-year success cycle.”

CORTIS has already proven their explosive buzz. Just six days after opening their official TikTok account, the group surpassed 1 million followers, now boasting 1.4 million as of the morning of August 18. Their intro track GO! has also drawn hot global response, with its music video entering YouTube’s trending charts in 11 regions including Korea, the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.

Adding to the anticipation is the group’s unique identity as a “Young Creator Crew.” Each member participates directly in producing core content such as music, choreography, and video. All members are credited on their debut album COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES, and they contributed to the choreography of GO! as well as co-directing its official music video.

As a team entirely made up of teenagers, CORTIS radiates fresh energy. But GO! was only a teaser of what’s to come. Their title track What You Want stands out with its genre-blending sound: nostalgic psychedelic rock-inspired guitar riffs from the 1960s layered with hip-hop’s heavy boom-bap beats—an uncommon style in K-pop that sparks curiosity.

Notably, members Martin and James previously contributed to the music and choreography of senior artists including TXT, ENHYPEN, and ILLIT during their trainee years, showcasing their strong capabilities. Their musical vision is expected to bring a new wave to the K-pop scene.

The performance of What You Want is just as striking as the song itself. The choreography embodies the members’ confidence, raw energy, and intensity, enhanced by unexpected stage devices that heighten the visual impact. Fans can catch this powerful performance in a conceptual performance film premiering on HYBE LABELS’ official YouTube channel at 6 PM on August 18.

The track also serves as CORTIS’s bold declaration as they step into a new world. After making a strong impression with their title song promotions, the group will officially release their debut album COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES on September 8.
