NewJeans’ “Hype Boy” Named One of the Greatest Songs of the 21st Century by Rolling Stone
Despite their current hiatus, NewJeans have achieved another major milestone. Their hit track “Hype Boy” has been selected as one of Rolling Stone magazine’s “The 250 Greatest Songs of the 21st Century So Far.”
According to their agency ADOR on the 9th, Rolling Stone announced on the 8th (local time) that NewJeans’ “Hype Boy” ranked No. 206 on the list.
Rolling Stone described the song as “a track that captures the culture of the young generation and the thrill of a crush with irresistible charm.” The magazine added, “‘Hype Boy’ blends fresh, modern sounds with a retro sensibility. The five members harmonize beautifully while showcasing their individual vocal colors within its under-three-minute runtime.”
“Hype Boy,” which combines elements of moombahton and electropop, is known for its refreshing and sophisticated sound. As one of NewJeans’ debut songs released in August 2022, it immediately swept both domestic and international charts, sparking a global phenomenon.
To date, the song has surpassed 700 million streams on Spotify, and it continues to remain on major Korean music charts, a testament to its enduring popularity.
