According to SBS on the 24th, 'Artist of the Year 2026', jointly organized by the SBS Cultural Foundation and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, will take place from July 24 to December 6 at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul.

Ahead of the exhibition, the opening ceremony held on the 23rd was attended by Bang Mun-sin, Chairman of the SBS Hope Tomorrow Committee (SBS President), Kim Seong-hee, Director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, along with sponsored artists Lee Hae-min, Lee Jung-woo, Jeon Hyun-seon, Hong Jin-hwan, museum and gallery officials, and approximately 250 others.

The opening ceremony proceeded with greetings, introductions to the exhibition and sponsored artists, and a certificate presentation ceremony. The SBS Cultural Foundation plans to present sponsorship certificates to the four sponsored artists and support their creation of new works and exhibition activities.

'Artist of the Year' is a contemporary art artist sponsorship program jointly organized by the SBS Cultural Foundation and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art since 2012, annually selecting four artists (or teams) to support the creation of new works, exhibitions, and overseas projects.

Lee Hae-min, Lee Jung-woo, Jeon Hyun-seon, and Hong Jin-hwan were selected as this year's sponsored artists.

During the exhibition period, linked programs such as critical guided tours and screenings and talks will also be held. Participation can be pre-booked via the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art website.

The winner, Choi Jong (수상), will be announced in October after a second round of judging by domestic and international committees. A documentary introducing the four sponsored artists and the Choi Jong (수상) artist is scheduled to be released through SBS and Netflix.

Bang Mun-sin, Chairman of the SBS Hope Tomorrow Committee, stated, "Challenge, sponsorship, greater leaps, warmth, and gratitude are the core values of 'Artist of the Year'," adding, "We support this year's sponsored artists in making even greater leaps on the international stage through this selection."

Kim Seong-hee, Director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, announced, "The representative exhibition 'Artist of the Year 2026', which has presented experimental trends and new discourses in contemporary Korean art, is expected to provide an opportunity for us to understand the era we live in more three-dimensionally through the works of four artists exploring structures and conditions beyond what is visible."
