'Leading' Samsung Lions allowed KT Wiz in second place to catch up.

Samsung lost 0-2 to KT in the '2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League' match held on the 9th at Daegu Samsung Lions Park. The game was decided by Kim Hyun-soo's two-run home run in the 6th inning.

With this, Samsung failed to extend their winning streak to four and stumbled, while KT won their second consecutive game, narrowing the gap with leading Samsung from 1.5 games to 0.5 games.

The home team Samsung lined up their starting lineup in the order of Kim Ji-chan (center fielder)-Kim Sung-yoon (right fielder)-Gu Ja-wook (left fielder)-Choi Hyung-woo (designated hitter)-Ryu Ji-hyuk (second baseman)-Jeon Byung-woo (third baseman)-Diaz (first baseman)-Kang Min-ho (catcher)-Lee Jae-hyun (shortstop). The starting pitcher was Won Tae-in.

The visiting team KT countered with Choi Won-jun (center fielder)-Heo Kyung-min (third baseman)-Ahn Hyun-min (right fielder)-Hilliard (left fielder)-Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter)-Kim Sang-soo (second baseman)-Ryu Hyun-in (first baseman)-Han Seung-taek (catcher)-Kwon Dong-jin (shortstop) in their batting order. Go Young-pyo took the mound as the starting pitcher.

With 'national team-caliber pitcher' Go Young-pyo and Won Tae-in in a tight starting pitching matchup, the game unfolded as a tense pitching duel. In a matchup where 0-0 continued, KT was the first team to seize an opportunity and shake things up. After two outs in the top of the 6th inning, Hilliard changed the flow. Hilliard received a ball call after Samsung's video review of a check swing call on the first pitch, and after reaching a 2-ball count, he attacked the third pitch and successfully reached base with a right-field single.

Here, Kim Hyun-soo broke the 0-0 deadlock. On a full count, Kim Hyun-soo didn't miss the 7th pitch wild pitch (142km cutter) and drove it. The ball flew straight toward the right-field wall, connecting for a massive two-run arch with a distance of 114m. With Kim Hyun-soo's 10th home run of the season, KT took a 2-0 lead.

With run support, Go Young-pyo was unstoppable. In the bottom of the 6th, facing the top of the order with Kim Ji-chan, Kim Sung-yoon, and Gu Ja-wook, he recorded three straight outs and didn't allow any runs through the 7th inning. After throwing 97 pitches over 7 innings, Go Young-pyo recorded 4 hits allowed, 5 strikeouts, and no runs, then handed the mound to Son Dong-hyun in the 8th inning.

Samsung failed to solve KT's must-win relievers Son Dong-hyun and Park Young-hyun and simply fell to their knees. After one out in the bottom of the 9th, Gu Ja-wook drew a walk, but Choi Hyung-woo and pinch hitter Lee Chang-yong simply struck out.

Go Young-pyo earned his 11th season win, Son Dong-hyun recorded his 10th season hold, and Park Young-hyun collected his 26th season save. Among KT batters, Ahn Hyun-min swung a hot bat with 3 hits, while Hilliard, Ryu Hyun-in, and Kim Hyun-soo each had 1 hit.

Samsung's starting pitcher Won Tae-in pitched well with 6 innings, 5 hits allowed (1 home run), 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, and 2 runs allowed, but suffered his 7th season loss. Choi Hyung-woo was the only Samsung batter to record a multi-hit, but the loss overshadowed his performance.
