An opportunity was provided for elementary school students, the future stars of the sport, to learn the joy of sports and teamwork through short track speed skating.

The Korea Skating Federation announced on the 20th that the '2026 Youth Sports Festival Short Track Speed Skating Team Championship,' held at the Incheon Seonhak Ice Rink on the 17th, concluded successfully.

Operated with funding support and collaboration from the Korea Sports Council, the tournament was prepared to allow participating students to compete in a safe and enjoyable environment. In matches divided into individual and team events, participating athletes demonstrated their honed skills and engaged in fierce, friendly competition. In particular, during the team events, they reaffirmed the value of teamwork based on consideration and cooperation among teammates.

On the day, short track speed skating national team members Lee Dong-hyun, Nam Yun-chang, and Park Ji-won made a surprise visit to hold a special event. The young athletes communicated directly with the national team stars they had long admired and skated on the ice, gaining motivation for their future and nurturing their dreams.

A representative from the Skating Federation said, "We hope this tournament serves as a meaningful opportunity for students to feel the appeal of short track speed skating and grow together with their peers," adding, "Going forward, we will continue to cooperate closely with the Korea Sports Council to provide diverse opportunities that allow youth to become more familiar with ice sports."

The Federation plans to consistently hold youth-participatory ice sports programs and tournaments in the future, focusing on expanding the base of short track speed skating and cultivating young athletes.
