American singer-songwriter Oliver Tree passed away in a helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to the New York Post and AP News, among others, on the 15th (local time), the helicopter Oliver Tree was riding collided mid-air with another helicopter over the Recreio dos Bandeirantes area in southwestern Rio de Janeiro.

As a result, both helicopters crashed into a nearby electric vehicle parking lot, and about 20 vehicles caught fire. It is reported that all on board died.

According to fire authorities, the exact cause of the collision is currently under investigation. Recently, Brazil has seen a series of similar accidents, including a light aircraft colliding with a residential building in an urban area, resulting in casualties.

Oliver Tree was beloved for hit songs such as "Life Goes On." He was on his "The World's First World Tour," which visits 30 countries across seven continents. He had recently concluded a performance in São Paulo and was preparing for a concert in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 13.

Meanwhile, Oliver Tree faced criticism in 2019 for superimposing his own face onto the memorial portrait of Jong-hyun, a member of the group SHINee who had passed away, to promote his own concert.

Following this, he bowed his head and said, "I apologize to Jong-hyun's family who may have been hurt because of me," adding, "It was not an intentional or malicious appropriation. I am sorry to those who were hurt by mistake."
