Kwon Soon-wook, BoA's biological brother and a music video director, has passed away five years ago.

Kwon Soon-wook passed away on September 5, 2021, after battling peritoneal cancer. He was 39 years old. About four months before his death, in May of the same year, he announced his illness through his SNS. At that time, he said, "The prognosis is not good; hospitals are telling me my remaining life expectancy is about two to three months," which drew sympathy from many.

His younger sister BoA conveyed her heartfelt feelings toward her brother who was fighting the illness and wished for his recovery. BoA then said, "Oppa, I love you. We can overcome this. I will definitely cook ramen for you. We must eat it together," promising a future they would share. She continued, "I think Oppa is truly a strong person. You are the coolest and strongest person in my eyes. Thank you for encouraging me every day."

However, Kwon Soon-wook could not overcome the illness and passed away.

After his passing, BoA expressed her longing for him by saying, "Our last conversation was 'I love you,' so thank you for leaving such warm words. Now I am waiting in a place where you are no longer in pain, doing everything you wanted to do. Forget all the difficult times and protect me and our family from now on in a place without suffering."

Meanwhile, Kwon Soon-wook left behind various works as a music video director. He made his debut as a director through the music video "Lion's Roar" by Popin Hyun-jun. Later, he gained recognition by directing multiple music videos, including Girl's Day's "Twinkle Twinkle," Mamamoo's "Piano Man," and BoA's "Only One" and "Kiss My Lips."
