Broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu expressed concern over the record-breaking heavy rain in Nagoya.

On the 9th, Jang posted on his personal social media: "It seems the Earth is in great pain. Geoje, Nepal. This time, a disaster has struck Nagoya. To suffer such a fever before the Asian Games in Nagoya. I sincerely hope there will be no major loss of life."

On the same day, according to local Japanese media, 104.5mm of rain fell in one hour until the previous afternoon in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. The Ueda River flowing through Nagoya saw its water level rise sharply and overflowed, submerging vehicles. As a result of this heavy rain, all public schools and kindergartens in central Nagoya were temporarily closed.

Even as the opening of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games approached, leaks were confirmed at several competition venues due to the heavy rain. Athletes who had arrived early and were staying in accommodations were once ordered to evacuate.

The Japan Meteorological Agency stated, "A tropical low-pressure system has merged with a front and is moving northeast, so heavy rain is expected to continue from western Japan to Tohoku." It added, "In the Tokai, Kinki, Shikoku, and Kanto-Koshin regions, there is a high possibility that warning-level heavy rain will continue until the 9th."
