Five-member girl group RESCENE has been selected as "Honorary Citizens of Geoje," following their appointment as promotional ambassadors for Geoje City in Gyeongsangnam-do.

On the 9th, the Geoje City Council held its second plenary session at the 265th extraordinary meeting and passed the bill "Approval of Recipients of the 2026 Geoje City Honorary Citizen Award" as originally proposed. The bill centers on designating RESCENE as "Honorary Citizens of Geoje."

Previously, Geoje City submitted this proposal to the city council based on the "Geoje City Honorary Citizen Certificate Grant Ordinance," which allows for the recommendation of individuals who have elevated the city's status externally as honorary citizens.

With the original bill passed by the city council, all members of RESCENE have become "Honorary Citizens of Geoje." This marks the first time a celebrity group has received this honor.

As of the end of last year, there were 67 Honorary Citizens of Geoje City. Previous recipients have included shipowners who contributed to the local economy and medical professionals who worked hard in the fight against the COVID-19 virus.

Geoje is the hometown of leader Won-i and also the place where the meme "Geoje Yaho," which led RESCENE's current "reverse-running myth," originated.

Consequently, after being appointed as Geoje City promotional ambassadors in May this year, RESCENE has now been elevated to "Honorary Citizens of Geoje."
