The boy group MONSTA X is attracting international attention with their comeback.
On September 1, MONSTA X (Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Jooheon, I.M) released their new mini-album THE X, receiving a wave of positive reviews from prominent overseas media outlets.
U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone published an interview with MONSTA X on September 1 (local time), calling THE X “a love letter to Monbebe (the fandom) and a work showcasing MONSTA X’s unique musical color.” The magazine highlighted that all members participated in lyric writing, composing, arranging, and song selection, demonstrating their growth as artists. Regarding the title track “N the Front,” Rolling Stone described it as “a chaotic yet melodic rap track, characterized by intense percussion, with broad appeal across generations.” I.M added in the interview, “We approached each track with a clear vision. The song ‘Savior’ was perfectly suited for the vocal members.” Rolling Stone noted that such vision is one of the reasons MONSTA X has stood out in a competitive industry where long-term success is difficult, adding, “The members focus on creating a legacy they can be proud of rather than chasing commercial success.”
U.S. business magazine Forbes reflected on MONSTA X’s journey, emphasizing that 10 years after their debut in 2015, they have established themselves as “icons of the Korean music scene.” The article also praised the group’s pioneering spirit, noting their willingness to experiment with multiple languages and genres—including Korean, Japanese, and English releases—and to explore a wide musical spectrum such as EDM, Latin, R&B, pop, and future bass.
