The Mexican Minister of Economy has drawn global attention after sharing on social media his joy at fulfilling a pledge he made three years ago to invite BTS.

On the 14th (local time), Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s Minister of Economy, posted a video on his TikTok account showing his meeting with BTS member Jin in Incheon last year. Along with the video, he wrote, “Hello friends, ARMY BTS. I am always thinking of my Mexico and of you,” and added three purple heart emojis.

During his presidential primary campaign in 2023, Ebrard appeared at an animation festival in Actopan, Hidalgo, holding a BTS poster and pledged, “In 2024 or 2025, once the members complete their military service, I will bring them to Mexico.” When a fan asked, “When will you bring them?” he replied, “In 2025, as soon as military service is over. Or in 2024. I will bring them. I’ll invite you.”

However, Ebrard lost the ruling Morena party’s primary to Claudia Sheinbaum and did not become the party’s presidential candidate. Sheinbaum went on to win the general election in 2024, and Ebrard was appointed Minister of Economy. Although he did not become president, he did not forget his promise.

In November 2025, when Ebrard visited Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, he attended Jin’s RunSeokjin Ep. Tour concert held in Incheon. Visiting the venue on behalf of President Sheinbaum, he met Jin in person and later shared the video, which included his proposal to invite Jin to perform in Mexico following the announcement of the world tour schedule.
