BTS to Hold Historic Comeback Stage at Gwanghwamun and Gyeongbokgung in March… Cultural Heritage Administration Gives “Conditional Approval”
Global supergroup BTS (RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, Jung Kook) is set to stage a comeback performance at Gwanghwamun.
According to the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea on the 20th, the Cultural Heritage Committee reviewed HYBE’s request for permission to use and film at Gyeongbokgung Palace and Sungnyemun and granted conditional approval. The administration stated that the approval is subject to the formation of a subcommittee to further review detailed matters, including the potential impact on cultural heritage sites.
However, approval from the Cultural Heritage Administration alone does not finalize the performance. Additional approvals are required from relevant authorities such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government and the National Police Agency for the use of Gwanghwamun Square, after which a final decision will be made.
HYBE recently applied for permission to use locations around Gwanghwamun and Gyeongbokgung to host a K-pop performance featuring BTS. The company cited reasons including strengthening the global status of K-culture, maximizing international impact, boosting tourism, enhancing national brand value, and ensuring the protection and safe management of national heritage sites.
BTS will make their comeback on March 20 with their 5th full-length album, “Arirang.” The album contains 14 tracks that explore universal themes such as the group’s identity, longing, and deep love.
The group is reportedly considering holding performances on March 20, the album’s release date, as well as March 21 and 22.
