Footballer Ki Sung-yueng shared his thoughts on the 2026 North American World Cup.

On the 22nd episode of tvN's variety program 'You Quiz on the Block', actor Kim Kang-woo and footballer Ki Sung-yueng, who are brothers-in-law, appeared together as guests.

That day, when Yoo Jae-suk asked Ki Sung-yueng, "As a former captain of the national team, how do you evaluate this World Cup match?", he avoided giving a specific answer by saying, "Fortunately, I only watched the Czech Republic game."

He stated, "I have participated in the World Cup three times. While being inside the stadium was stressful and difficult, watching from outside made me realize why people enjoy the World Cup so much. The result of the first match was too good. I met with the players and gave them a lot of encouragement, but since it ended this way, I personally feel very regretful, and I fully understand that the public is disappointed."

Ki Sung-yueng added, "I hope Korean football undergoes significant reform in the future. The national team must take much greater responsibility. I feel that everything was lacking this time."

He further expressed his regret, saying, "It's disappointing that there is no role model in our country whom we can say, 'I want to learn from that person.' It made me reflect on myself. I began to wonder whether I truly worked hard for Korean football or if I had any right to criticize without doing anything."
