Singer JK Kim Dong-wook publicly supported Starbucks, following actor Choi Jun-yong.

On the 25th, JK Kim Dong-wook posted a photo on his Instagram, saying, "I don't usually go there, so why make me want to go when it's such a hassle?"

The photo featured the text "If you want to go, go. The choice is yours" above the Starbucks logo.

Starbucks Korea ran a tumbler promotion event from the 15th to the 26th. However, during this process, the use of phrases such as "Tank Day" and "On the desk" on the 18th sparked controversy.

Criticism arose, particularly within online communities, that these expressions mocked the the 18th Democratization Movement and the 1987 torture-to-death case of martyr Park Jong-chul. As the controversy grew, Starbucks Korea halted the event and issued an apology.

However, as a result, a boycott movement against Starbucks emerged in some parts of Korea, while a pro-Starbucks movement arose in response, turning Starbucks into a tool for "public display of political affiliation."

Prior to JK Kim Dong-wook, actor Choi Jun-yong had been continuously posting photos verifying his purchases of Starbucks beverages on his SNS, with captions such as "Coffee is Starbucks," "Starbucks love continues," "Iced Americano is definitely Starbucks," and "It was delivered?"

JK Kim Dong-wook and Choi Jun-yong previously publicly supported President Yoon Suk-yeol during last year's impeachment crisis.
