The resumption of alternative service by Song Min-ho (33), a member of the boy group WINNER, has been confirmed. An individual who had been on a smooth path in both music and variety shows ended up kicking away his own good fortune with his own feet.

A source from the Military Manpower Administration told StarNews on the 16th regarding Song Min-ho's resumption of service, "The relevant department is reviewing the procedures for resuming service after the (first-instance) judgment becomes final."

The Military Manpower Administration plans to notify Song Min-ho of his resumption of service soon. However, as the details of the resumption involve personal information, it is expected that disclosing the specific timing of the notification will be difficult.

Song Min-ho served as an alternative service worker at the Seoul Mapo District Facility Management Public Corporation from March 2023 to December 2024, but was prosecuted on charges of violating the Military Service Act for frequently being absent without leave. According to the Prosecution Service, Song Min-ho was absent without leave for 102 days out of approximately 430 actual working days.

In response, the Prosecution Service sought a prison sentence of one year and six months at the first trial held at the Seoul Western District Court in April last month. The first-instance court then sentenced him to one year in prison with a two-year suspended sentence at the sentencing hearing held on the 1st of this month. Subsequently, as neither the Prosecution Service nor Song Min-ho appealed, the sentence became final.

On the 9th, Song Min-ho released a handwritten apology letter through his personal social media account, stating, "I bow my head in apology for causing worry to many people because of me." He added, "Above all, I am deeply sorry for disappointing the young men who are faithfully fulfilling their military service obligations, as well as the fans who have cherished me more than anyone else. My regrets have been long every single day. My past choices, which lacked a sense of responsibility, were shameful and ugly."

Song Min-ho, who debuted as a member of WINNER in 2014, was loved for hit songs such as "Empty," "Lily Lily," "Everyday," "Love Me Love Me," and "Miller's." In addition to group activities, he also received recognition for his musical capabilities by winning the runner-up position on Mnet's "Show Me The Money 10."

His performance in variety shows was also outstanding. He appeared in PD Na Young-seok's directed "New Journey to the West" series and spin-off programs such as "Spring Camp" and "Look at My Shoulder, It's Dislocated," among others, receiving constant offers for both his main music career and variety shows due to his exceptional sense of humor. Since then, he has consistently met viewers through various variety shows with different concepts, including "World Tour on the Day I Was Born" and "Sing Again."

Song Min-ho, whose life was truly a smooth path itself, lost everything he had achieved so far due to his "past choices that lacked a sense of responsibility," as he himself admitted. Whether he can recover the good fortune he kicked away with his own feet is once again up to Song Min-ho. With what mindset will he fill the hole left by the 102nd days spent in irresponsibility and complacency? Public attention is now focused on Song Min-ho.
