Seungri (36, real name Lee Seung-hyun), a former member of the group BIGBANG, created unnecessary controversy with his ambiguous stance regarding the announcement of his pregnancy.

News about Seungri becoming an "expectant father" spread online on the 27th, after being reported by the online media outlet GreyNews on the 26th, causing a stir across the internet.

The outlet reported, "Seungri's girlfriend, a non-celebrity woman in her 20s, is currently pregnant. She is due to give birth in January next year. The baby is a boy." Additionally, according to the outlet, the couple has prepared a newlywed home in Seoul Gangnam-gu and plans to hold their wedding ceremony after the birth.

Given that Seungri caused social controversy and was expelled from not only BIGBANG but also the entertainment industry, reports of his "pregnancy before marriage" immediately attracted explosive attention.

Once again finding himself at the center of the storm, Seungri directly stated his position through Ilgan Sports on the 28th. He said, "At this time, I am not considering a wedding ceremony," revealing that he and his girlfriend in her 20s are already legally married.

In doing so, Seungri explained that it was not a case of "pregnancy before marriage." He emphasized, "My wife and I are, of course, legally a couple."

However, while Seungri repeatedly denied directly that the content stating he married because of the pregnancy was true, he remained silent about the specific timing of the pregnancy and the marriage registration, leaving doubts. This is because "pregnancy before marriage" typically encompasses cases where a child is conceived not only before the wedding ceremony but also before the marriage registration. This is why questions are following among netizens regarding Seungri's "selective" explanation, in which he expressed his grievance while omitting the core details.

Furthermore, in a social atmosphere where cases of "pregnancy before marriage" leading to marriage are natural, it raised puzzlement as to why Seungri pushed the narrative toward "sensational keywords" and complained about privacy invasion damages. Despite the fact that among the news involving Seungri, from the "Burning Sun Gate," which shook South Korea as a breeding ground for crime, to the recent assault dispute, this "pregnancy before marriage" report was actually the least sensational issue.

Seungri debuted with BIGBANG in 2006 and gained great popularity, but in 2019, he was designated as a key figure in the "Burning Sun Gate," leading to his withdrawal from the team and expulsion from the South Korean entertainment industry. He was prosecuted on nine charges, including prostitution, procuring prostitution, violation of the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence, and habitual gambling, and received a confirmed sentence of one year and six months in prison at the Supreme Court in May 2022, which he served. He was released from prison in February 2023.

In addition, Seungri was sued last August on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated intimidation, and aggravated false imprisonment. The charge applied was for assaulting a man A in his 30s with whom he had been drinking at a restaurant in Seoul Gangnam-gu. Seungri is currently denying the charges.
