The group NewJeans has produced its first song to surpass 900 million streams on the global audio and music streaming platform Spotify.
According to Spotify on the 16th, the title track “OMG” from NewJeans’ single album of the same name recorded a cumulative total of 900,136,493 streams as of the 14th. After surpassing 800 million cumulative streams in March last year, the song added another 100 million streams in about 10 months, steadily proving its global staying power. “OMG” is a hip-hop R&B track that blends UK garage rhythms with trap beats. Its bouncy, upbeat melody, paired with the signature point choreography—placing hands on the head and nodding along to the lyrics “Oh my oh my God”—has created strong addictiveness and earned widespread love.
Since its release in January 2023, “OMG” climbed to No. 74 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and remained on the chart for six weeks, an exceptional achievement for a K-pop rookie at the time. The song also reached No. 10 on Billboard’s Global 200 and No. 7 on Billboard Japan’s Hot 100, demonstrating notable success across major global charts. Together with “Ditto,” another track from the same album, “OMG” dominated top positions on major domestic and international charts for an extended period, establishing itself as one of the representative hit songs of the year.
Including “OMG,” NewJeans has now released a total of 15 songs that have each surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. “Super Shy” and “Ditto” have exceeded 800 million streams, “Hype Boy” has surpassed 700 million, “Attention” has topped 500 million, “New Jeans” and “ETA” have exceeded 400 million, “Cookie” has passed 300 million, and “Hurt,” “Cool With You,” “How Sweet,” and “Supernatural” have each surpassed 200 million streams. Meanwhile, “ASAP,” “Get Up,” and “Bubble Gum” have each recorded over 100 million streams. The combined cumulative Spotify streams of all songs released by NewJeans now exceed 7.2 billion.
