Actor Kim Sung-cheol has solidified his image as the 'National Younger Brother'.

Kim Sung-cheol is currently delivering a standout performance as Woo-ki, a low-level member of a loan shark organization who accidentally receives gold bars from a smuggling gang and helps Hee-ju (played by Park Bo-young) in Disney+ original series 'Gold Land'.

In episodes 7 and 8, released on the 20th, Woo-ki falls into crisis after being caught by Park Yi-sa (played by Lee Kwang-soo). Despite being pursued by Yes Money gangsters after his past misdeeds are exposed, Woo-ki sacrifices himself to the end, giving all the gold bars he possesses to Hee-ju and urging her to escape. In particular, Woo-ki's desperate efforts to keep Hee-ju's identity hidden even under torture brought both poignancy and emotional depth to viewers.

A scene offering a glimpse into Woo-ki's past also drew attention. In a phone call with Hee-ju that may be their last, he mentions his past. He tells Hee-ju, "When I was trembling with fear in the coal mine, you came to pick me up, didn't you? You don't remember, do you?" This line hints at the meaning Hee-ju holds for Woo-ki, adding depth to the narrative.

Unlike Woo-ki's rough and raw appearance, Kim Sung-cheol is receiving high praise for fully embodying the charm of a character who becomes gentle and cute in front of Hee-ju. Even in situations where his true identity could be exposed, he always acts first to protect his sister Hee-ju, and he shows a reliable side by telling her to use him as much as needed. He is delivering a simple yet sincere portrayal of Woo-ki's pure love, redefining his career-defining role.

'Gold Land' is a survival thriller in which Kim Hee-ju, who has obtained 150 billion won worth of gold bars from a smuggling organization, fights to monopolize the gold amidst a chaotic world of greed and betrayal. Two episodes are released every Wednesday, totaling 10 episodes.
