The U.S. daily newspaper USA Today drew attention by focusing on the meaningful friendship between BTS member V and soccer player Son Heung-min.

USA Today highlighted the connection between V and Son Heung-min, reporting on footage of Son attending a concert and their close relationship. The article also mentioned V’s birthday tribute post and Son’s role as an ambassador for Hite Jinro.

Son Heung-min attended the second night of BTS’s world tour “Arirang” in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. USA Today reported that “Son Heung-min, who plays for the South Korean national team and LAFC, smiled brightly and waved to the audience when his image appeared on the stadium’s large screen during the sold-out concert, striking his signature pose.”

USA Today emphasized that Son spent last year’s birthday with V and has maintained a particularly close bond. On July 8 last year, V posted a message saying “HBD (Happy Birthday)” along with photos to celebrate Son’s birthday. Son responded by regramming the post on his Instagram. The released photo showed V, Son Heung-min, and pianist Cho Sung-jin sitting comfortably on an outdoor bench, looking at the camera in a “three-shot.”

The two are also linked through Hite Jinro’s Chamisul and Terra LINE-up, which the company introduced to target global markets. V was selected as Hite Jinro’s global ambassador last July. Hite Jinro announced that it chose V as an ambassador to strengthen Jinro’s competitiveness and become more familiar with consumers around the world. The beer brand Terra, marking its seventh anniversary and approaching the 2026 FIFA North American World Cup, appointed Son Heung-min as a new model in March.
